Flexible Counselling in Vancouver: Evening, Weekend, In-Person & Online Options
After a few years of doing almost everything through a screen—from work meetings to therapy sessions—many of us are feeling the pull to get back into the same room again. If you’ve found yourself yearning for the real human connection of sitting face-to-face with a counsellor, you’re not alone. While virtual counselling remains a flexible and effective option for many, there’s a unique quality to in-person therapy that some people find especially grounding. As part of the shift in post-COVID mental health support, people in Vancouver are eager to get back to the genuine connection that comes from sharing a space together.
It turns out this trend isn’t just anecdotal. Surveys show that many people still favor seeing a therapist in person when they can. And it makes sense – the therapeutic relationship often thrives on subtle non-verbal cues and a sense of presence that video calls might not always capture. Being in the same room allows for eye contact, body language, and a comforting ambiance that can deepen trust and understanding. Even the simple act of offering a client a tissue or a cup of tea in person carries a warmth that no chat emoji can replace.
In this post, we’ll explore why in-person counselling in Vancouver is making a comeback and what unique benefits face-to-face therapy offers. We’ll also discuss the growing need for flexible therapy options that fit busy urban lifestyles – because life hasn’t exactly slowed down either! And most importantly, we want to share how Nimble Counselling is responding to these shifts. (Spoiler: We’ve expanded our space!)
We recently opened a second counselling suite at 825 Granville Street to offer more evening and weekend counselling appointments for our clients. That means you can now book a session after work on weekdays or on a Saturday, whichever suits you best. And don’t worry – both of our suites in this beautiful art deco building carry the same warm, inviting Nimble aesthetic, so you’ll feel right at home no matter which room you’re in. These additional time slots are also available for clients who prefer online counselling, providing even more flexibility across formats.
Renewed Demand for In-Person Counselling Post-COVID
At the height of the pandemic, counselling (like so much else) moved online out of necessity. Therapists and clients adapted remarkably well to virtual sessions, and many continue to prefer that option today. For others, there's been a strong desire to return to in-person sessions when possible. We’re social creatures by nature, and therapy is a very human experience at its core. After so much time apart, it’s no surprise that people are craving face-to-face interactions again in their healing process.
For many, the isolation of the pandemic (and even the general loneliness that can come with big city life) highlighted how vital real human connection is for well-being. (We even explored the loneliness epidemic in Vancouver in a recent post – it’s a real issue here!). Coming to a counselling session in person offers a sense of presence and connection that can be profoundly comforting.
That said, virtual therapy continues to be a lifeline for those who need or prefer it. Some clients love the convenience and accessibility of logging into a session from home, fitting it into their schedule, or even continuing therapy while traveling. Both formats have value, and Nimble is proud to support your care, however it fits your life.
Therapeutic Benefits of In-Person and Online Counselling
Every counselling format offers its own unique strengths, and at Nimble, we celebrate the ability to offer both. Here are some benefits of in-person counselling that clients often find meaningful:
Rich Non-Verbal Communication: Sharing space with a therapist allows you to naturally engage through body language, facial expressions, tone of voice, and more. These subtle, human details can offer another layer of understanding.
A Dedicated, Safe Space: Stepping into a therapy office helps you leave behind daily distractions. It’s a dedicated space just for you—a place to focus inward, process emotions, and be supported.
Routine and Ritual: For many, the act of commuting to a session, arriving, and then decompressing afterward becomes part of the self-care routine.
Embodied Presence: The simple act of being in a room with another person can be deeply grounding and regulating, especially when working through emotional experiences.
At the same time, online counselling provides:
Convenience and Accessibility: You can attend sessions from your home, office, or wherever you have a quiet space. No commuting, no parking, no added travel time.
Continuity of Care: Whether you're traveling, feeling unwell, or facing mobility issues, online counselling ensures that support can remain consistent.
Comfort and Familiarity: Being in your own space may help you feel more at ease, especially when beginning therapy for the first time.
Flexible Scheduling: Online sessions may offer more options outside of traditional office hours, making them easier to fit into your day.
Some clients choose one format, others mix both depending on what they need week to week. It all comes down to what feels most supportive and sustainable for your mental health journey.
Flexible Therapy Options for Busy Urban Lifestyles
Modern life in a city like Vancouver keeps everyone on their toes. Between long work hours, commuting, family or school responsibilities, and trying to maintain some semblance of work-life balance, it can be hard to find time for therapy. We hear from our clients all the time how much they appreciate flexibility in scheduling and format – because mental health support shouldn’t add more stress to your week!
That’s why Nimble offers flexible therapy options that include both in-person and virtual appointments, along with a range of hours to accommodate different schedules. Maybe some weeks you want to come in person, and other weeks you’d rather do a virtual session from home. Maybe evenings or weekends are the only times you have to focus on yourself. Having flexible therapy options means you can actually get support in a way that adapts to your life, instead of having to adapt your life to get support.
We also offer a low-cost counselling program through our intern counsellors for those who need an affordable option. It’s all part of our commitment to providing accessible Vancouver counselling services that reflect the realities of our community.
Nimble’s New Downtown Space for Evening & Weekend Appointments
We recently opened a second therapy suite in our building (at 825 Granville Street, Suite 404) specifically to accommodate more evening and weekend clients. This new space allows us to offer counselling on weekday evenings (Monday–Thursday, 4–7 pm) and Saturdays (10 am–3 pm). We know how valuable those after-work and weekend slots are for busy professionals, students, and parents, and we’re excited to make it easier for you to access support at those times. These extended hours are also available to our online clients, providing even more flexibility no matter how you prefer to connect.
What does this expansion mean for you? More available appointment times, shorter waitlists, and the same quality care in a convenient downtown location. If you’ve been hoping to start individual counselling but 10 am on a Tuesday doesn’t work for you, now you can snag a 6 pm slot on a Wednesday. And if you and your partner have been meaning to try couples counselling but couldn’t find a good time with both your schedules, you can book a Saturday session when things are a bit calmer.
Having two suites in the same building also means we can serve more people simultaneously while still maintaining a peaceful, private atmosphere. Suite 607 remains our original office, and Suite 404 now adds extra capacity during those peak after-hours periods.
A Warm, Inviting Space with Art Deco Charm
Our offices are located in a beautiful art deco building in downtown Vancouver – a heritage space with vintage character that immediately sets a soothing tone. We love the historic charm of the building and we’ve made sure to infuse our Nimble style into it.
Both of our suites feature the same warm, inviting aesthetic that our clients have come to know. Think soft lighting, cozy couches and armchairs, clean and modern décor with artistic touches, and plenty of plants to bring a touch of nature inside. We’ve aimed to make each room feel calm and homey – more like a comfortable living room than a clinical office.
So whether you visit us in our original Suite 607 or our new Suite 404, you’ll get the same Nimble Counselling atmosphere: warm, professional, and personable. We believe the environment is an important part of therapy, and we’ve paid attention to every detail to ensure you feel at ease from the moment you arrive.
Ultimately, our goal is to offer you the best of both worlds – the convenience of modern therapy options and the timeless benefits of real human connection. The landscape of mental health care has evolved post-COVID, and we’re evolving with it, making sure that quality support is both flexible and deeply personal.
Our community’s well-being is our top priority, and we hope these changes make it a bit easier for you (or your loved ones) to get the support you deserve. If you’ve been considering counselling (or returning to it after a break), now is a great time. We’re here for you, whether you want the face-to-face experience of in person counselling in Vancouver or the ease of an online session from your home. Feel free to contact us with any questions or to book an appointment. We’d be honored to support you on your journey, in whatever way works best for you.
